Assessment
The assessment of students completing the surgery clerkship will continue to involve a combination of clinical performance evaluation, a final written examination, completion of a topic discussion paper, and the informed consent module.

The long case report will describe the complete course of one patient care episode from presentation to discharge. This report will include 1) all pertinent historical and clinical findings at initial; presentation, 2) the results of pertinent investigations including radiological and laboratory tests, 3) the pre-anesthesia assessment and plan, 4) the anesthetic and operative procedures undertaken, 5) any pathological reports, 6) the post-operative course, 7) the short-term outcome [30-day], and 8) a summary of the pertinent lessons learned from the case.
The informed consent module grade will be based upon participation in the interdisciplinary discussion group session held near the completion of the course and the informed consent written assignment.
Clinical grade – standard UCHSC SOM clinical grade evaluation is used. Each attending, resident, and/or intern on the team will complete an evaluation. A passing grade must be achieved on the clinical evaluations in order to pass the clerkship. The weighting of the evaluations are as follows:

Attendings at core hospitals: 60%
Resident PGY-3 to PGY-6: 30-20%
