Each year the University of Colorado Medical Scientist Training Program sponsors and organizes the National MD/PhD Student Conference. Organized by the 3rd year MSTP students, the conference provides an opportunity for MD/PhD students to present their work and interact with other MD/PhD students and prominent scientific investigators.
It is with great pleasure that the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Colorado at Denver, Anchutz Medical Campus invites you to the 24th Annual National MD/PhD Student Conference. This year’s conference will take place July 24th-26th in Keystone, Colorado. Over the past 23 years, the conference has brought MD/PhD students from across the U.S. and Canada to Colorado to share their research, hear featured speakers, participate in small groups, interact with a career panel and enjoy the Rocky Mountains. Participants have the unique opportunity to network with their fellow MD/PhD students, meet leading researchers, and consider the evolving role of the physician scientist.
As in the past, we have invited a group of distinguished speakers from a variety of disciplines. These
featured speakers will address topics in both basic science and translational research. This year we are excited to announce that
Drs. Karl Deisseroth,
Katherine High,
Jeannie Lee,
Phillip Sharp, and
Ralph Steinman will give keynote presentations. In addition, the student oral presentations and poster sessions will ensure that a wide spectrum of topics are discussed including, but not limited to, engineering, cancer biology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, neuroscience, developmental biology, and public health. The
career panel will include physicians and scientists from industry and academia who will offer a variety of perspectives on career development for MD/PhD students. Finally, we will have
breakout sessions encompassing various topics of interest to MD/PhD students.
The conference schedule includes free time to enjoy the spectacular surroundings of Keystone. Summit County and the nearby cities of Keystone, Dillon, Silverthorne and Breckenridge allow for shopping, outdoor exploration, and social gatherings after hours. Hiking, mountain biking and other adventure activities are conveniently located near the conference site.
Approximately ten
Diversity Travel Awards and five
Endocrine Society Travel Awards will be given to conference attendees. We strongly encourage students to apply for these
$500 awards that cover registration and travel expenses. Be sure your travel plans allow for attending all poster sessions and keynote lectures which begin at 5 pm on Friday and continue through 9 pm on Sunday. When making
hotel reservations, please use reservation code
CN3MS9, so that your registration is associated with the conference.
We hope that you will join us at this year’s conference and find it as valuable as past attendees have. Please
contact us with any questions.
Sincerely,
The 2009 Organizing Committee
