FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE
TURN OFF THE OUTLOOK 2003
CACHED EXCHANGE MODE
If your computer is running Outlook 2003, you may have encountered some problems with Outlook 2003 cached exchange mode. Cached exchange mode creates a copy of your mailbox which is stored on your computer. This copy provides quick access to your data and is frequently updated with the mail server.
Some of the problems include-
Slow synchronization of mail. Synchronization means that all methods of accessing your email account (Outlook, Outlook Express, Web mail, PDA’s, and your laptop, if applicable) contain the same information being passed to and from the Microsoft Exchange Server.
Client stops sending and receiving mail altogether. No new email arriving, and all of the email that you are attempting to send is staying in the outbox.
The cashed exchange mode option for Outlook 2003 is enabled by default. The School of Pharmacy IT Department is recommending that it be disabled/not used on desktop systems that are connected to the campus network. (The only time cached exchange mode should be used is on a laptop for offline synchronization.)
Follow the steps below to disable cached exchange mode:
- Click Tools/Email Accounts
- Select View or Change existing email accounts and click next
- Select "Microsoft Exchange Server" and click "change"
- Uncheck the box that says "Use Cached Exchange mode"
- Click Next and Finish.
