Nontraditional (Distance Delivery Pathway) Doctor of Pharmacy Program
Overview
The Nontraditional PharmD (NTPD) program is a part-time, flexible program for working pharmacists who are licensed in the United States or Canada. Classes are delivered online. Experiential training requirements are met through a combination of clerkships performed in traditional and nontraditional settings, and through credit received for qualified, previous professional work. The NTPD program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education. No visits to campus are currently required.
While the current economic climate has put financial pressure on many universities, including the University of Colorado, the NTPD program is proud to announce that this year’s tuition increase will be only 2%, starting fall semester 2009. This is the lowest tuition rate increase since the inception of the program.
The Nontraditional PharmD program is administered through the UCD School of Pharmacy Office of Postgraduate Professional Education (OPPE). The OPPE also provides continuing pharmacy education programs as an educational provider accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
Mission Statement
The mission of the Doctor of Pharmacy degree program at the University of Colorado Denver School of Pharmacy is twofold: 1) to teach baccalaureate pharmacists the principles of advanced pharmacotherapeutics and pharmaceutical care, which is the responsible provision of drug therapy for the purpose of achieving definite outcomes that improve an individual patient’s quality of life, and 2) to train pharmacists to be proficient problem solvers, communicators and teachers so that they will effectively disseminate drug information to patients and other health professionals. The program will instill in its graduates a professional maturity, ethic, and commitment to the profession of pharmacy.
The University of Colorado Denver School of Pharmacy must provide an appropriate combination of pharmaceutical science instruction, clinical practice experience and professional motivation for selected pharmacists who possess the academic abilities, motivation and career aspirations to become innovators and leaders in pharmacy practice. These graduates will have the primary responsibility for redefining pharmacy’s role in the evolving health care system.
