Experiential Training

This page provides general introductory information about experiential training in the Nontraditional PharmD program. The NTPD program includes six (6) 5-credit advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPEs, or rotations). If taken on a full-time basis, each APPE is five weeks. On a part-time basis, each APPE requires 200 contact hours.

Three practice areas are required:

  • Acute Care Medicine
  • Ambulatory Care
  • Drug Information.

All pharmacists enrolled in the NTPD program must either perform these APPEs, or successfully challenge these practice areas for credit.

Additionally, each pharmacist also selects three elective APPEs. Electives may be selected from a wide variety of medicine subspecialties such as neurology, oncology, nutrition, infectious diseases, critical care, psychiatry, and pediatrics. Other elective choices include pharmaceutical care projects, community pharmacy, education, administration, industry, managed care, and clinical research.
