Associate Professor/Professor in Stem Cell Biology and Developmental Biology
The University of Colorado School of Medicine invites nominations and applications for a senior level position in the Department of Pediatrics within the new Charles C. Gates Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Biology program with an emphasis in Developmental Biology. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an outstanding research scientist interested in academic medically oriented research and leadership to contribute to the growth and depth of this program including the recruitment of additional junior faculty. The developing Stem Cell Program includes skin, hematopoetic and neural stem cell biologists, developmental biologists, and clinicians. The Stem Cell Program occupies new laboratory space in a research building on the Anschutz Campus, located in northeast Denver, the largest new biomedical research and clinical campus in the US.
Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D. or M.D. degree (or the equivalent) and have a track record of important, funded research in scientific areas relevant to Developmental Biology/Stem Cell Biology. The search committee will seek individuals with outstanding accomplishments in biomedical research, administrative and leadership experience, sustained external funding, and a demonstrated commitment to education. Stem Cell Biologist with M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D.
The Charles C. Gates Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Biology Program, the Neurotransplantation Program for Parkinson's Disease, and the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center seek a stem cell biologist with M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D. degrees and appropriate background for a tenure-eligible position at an open rank. Some preference will be given to those with physician training. Applicants should have a strong record of research for their career stage. Successful candidates will be expected to develop an independent research program using stem cells to pursue the cause and treatment of Parkinson's disease. As faculty, they will be expected to participate in teaching of graduate and medical students.
The University of Colorado has a long record of innovative research in Parkinson's disease including the first transplant of human fetal dopamine cells in the United States in 1988. There are 12 faculty whose research interests focus on Parkinson's disease. They represent clinical and basic research departments in the School of Medicine, the School of Pharmacy, the Neuroscience Program, and the Stem Cell Biology Program. The Charles C. Gates Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Biology Program at the Health Sciences Center is headed by Dennis Roop, Ph.D. Its goals are to foster stem cell research across disciplines, providing resources and core facilities to make collaborative research successful.
