Research Interests  The structure and function of MAP kinase signal transduction pathways in oxalate induced nephrotoxicity as well as the characterization of MAP kinase signal transduction pathways that are critical determinants in the patho-physiologies of bladder hypertrophy, benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer.

Bio

Dr. Hari K. Koul is Professor and Director of Research, Division of Urology and Department of Surgery at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine, Denver, Colorado, USA. He is founding program Director for Urosciences Program and a member of the University of Colorado Cancer Center. He is an internationally recognized researcher in Urology. His research interests are focused around understanding the pathophysiology of kidney stone disease, prostate cancer, bladder hypertrophy, urogenital development, and erectile dysfunction.

Dr. Koul is a charter member of the National Institute of Health Study Section on the Urologic Kidney and Genitourinary Development and US Veterans Administration Merit Review Subcommittee for Surgery, and a member of the US Veterans Administration Merit Review Subcommittee for Oncology. Dr. Koul is recognized for his scientific leadership and original contributions to molecular mechanisms in urologic diseases across the globe by his peers. He has been called to serve on several NIH-Special Emphasis Panels for his expertise. He serves on the editorial boards of Urologic Research. Dr Koul also serves as a reviewer for Kidney International; Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Urology, American Journal of Physiology; Scanning Microscopy International; Journal of Bone and Mineral Research; Journal of Urology; Urologic Research; Biological Chemistry; Oncogene, and Molecular Medicine.

Respected for his innovative and administrative skills, Dr. Koul has been appointed to several powerful committees of the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine. He is member of Dean’s Research Advisory Council for the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine. He also serves as a member of the Translational Research Council of the University. He is a member of Proteomics Oversight Committee of the University of Colorado.

Dr. Koul is a tireless advocate for scientific research enterprise. In recognition for his tireless service and leadership Dr. Koul was elected President of the Research on Calculous Kinetics Society-USA (2005-2006), is a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology, and a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition. Dr. Koul is an active member of the Molecular Medicine Society, the American Urological Association (AUA), the American Association for Cancer Research, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, American College of Nutrition, American Society of Nephrology, Hyperoxaluria and Oxalosis Foundation, Research on Calculus Kinetics Society, American Chemical Society, American Association for Advancement of Sciences, New York Academy of Sciences- USA.
