Application Process

Applications to our general surgery residency, both categorical and preliminary, should be made through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS), accessed through your medical school dean's office if you are a graduate of a US medical school or through the ECFMG if you are a foreign medical school graduate. Application is made by completing the appropriate forms and submitting the required supporting material. After review of this material, candidates are invited to appear in person for an interview. Our interview season runs from November through January. Candidates will be contacted by e-mail regarding their interview status.

General requirements for admittance to any CU residency program can be found at our Graduate Medical Education Office’s website.

We have no minimum USMLE Step I score requirement; however, scores above the 220 level are advantageous. We require 3 letters of recommendation, and request no more than 4.

Clinical J-1 visas are required by our GME Office for all foreign medical graduates, if not permanent residents or US citizens. Prior clinical experience in the United States is not required, nor is there a cut off for time out of medical school.

The deadline for 2008 (interns beginning June, 2009) will be November 10, 2008.
