    The Office of Grants and Contracts (OGC), under the direction of Pamela J. Jones, Ph.D., provide administrative support to principal investigators and administrators in the acquisition and administration of extramural funds. OGC is also responsible for working with principal investigators and administrators to ensure use of extramural funding is compliant and within the course and scope of university policies. OGC administrative support services include application or proposal review, award negotiation and execution, award administration, sponsored project policy formation, education and accounting for all categories of sponsored projects. OGC manages a sponsored project portfolio of over $350,000,000/year.

  • Privacy Office
    Compliance and Privacy Officer, Barbara A. Kakenmaster, RN, JD; Bio

    This office, under the direction of Barbara Kakenmaster, is responsible for directing and coordinating the University of Colorado Denver’s plan for privacy and security of information, including but not limited to HIPAA and FERPA compliance. HIPAA places protections on individually identifiable health information to protect individuals’ privacy, while FERPA provides protection for student information.

  • Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
    Director, Margaret Turner, B.Sc., Ph.D.; Bio

    Margaret Turner, B.Sc., Ph.D. is the Administrator for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) at the University of Colorado Denver. The IACUC is responsible for the oversight of regulatory compliance in research involving animals. Dr. Turner holds degrees in Pharmacology from the University of Glasgow, Scotland and has research interests in sympathetic neurotransmission in the cardiovascular system. She served in administration in both COMIRB and IACUC Offices at UCD prior to assuming the role of IACUC Administrator. Dr. Turner's background in education includes teaching pharmacology courses to nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and nurse practitioners.

  • Office of Laboratory Animal Resources (OLAR)
    Director, Mark Douse, Ph.D.; Bio

    OLAR has responsibility of veterinary oversight of animal care; provision for faculty and staff training in appropriate animal care, regulatory requirements, support of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and is the organizational point of contact for extramural animal related interactions with the public and governing agencies (AAALAC, USDA). Dr. Douse, as the director, supervises the OLAR staff and has the responsibility to ensure the provision of adequate veterinary care. The UCD animal care & use program is structured according to federal law (9th Code of Federal Regulations [9CFR]) and university policy.
