The ceremonial check was accepted by CU President Hank Brown, along with Dr. Paul Bunn, director of the University of Colorado Cancer Center and Dr. Richard Krugman, dean of the CU School of Medicine. U.S. Congressman Bob Beauprez also attended and spoke at the ceremony.
The investment will help UCD complete renovation for occupancy of historic Building 500 on the Fitzsimons campus. The project involves the interior renovation of the sixth floor of the building to house the CU Cancer Center’s research and related support programs. The investment is expected to retain 80 jobs, create 100 new jobs, and generate $54.3 million in private investment.
“ The Department of Commerce is pleased to partner with the people of Colorado and set the stage for investment and innovation through economic development grants like these,” said Baruah. “The administration is committed to working with local communities to grow the economy, create jobs and encourage investments in local areas.”
“ This grant is another positive step towards the completion of this state-of-the-art health care facility,” said Congressman Beauprez. “The dynamic synergy created by the ongoing development of the Fitzsimons campus is leading the way for better health care for all Coloradans, as well as strengthening our economy and creating jobs by expanding our bio-medical industry.”
EDA’s mission is to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness, preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy.
