Greg Stiegmann, MD, named UCD interim chancellor
University of Colorado President Hank Brown, with the concurrence of the CU Board of Regents, recently announced the appointment of Gregory V. Stiegmann, MD, as interim chancellor for the University of Colorado Denver.

Gregory V. Stiegmann, MD
Stiegmann has served as head of the CU School of Medicine’s Division of GI, Tumor and Endocrine Surgery since 1995, and as University of Colorado Hospital vice president for clinical affairs since 1997.

“ Greg’s leadership and experience will be valuable during the next several months as UCD continues to evolve as an academic and economic powerhouse for Colorado,” Brown said.

As interim chancellor, Stiegmann will oversee the health sciences campuses at Ninth Avenue in Denver and at Fitzsimons in Aurora, and the downtown Denver campus at Auraria. He will begin Dec. 12 and has committed to serve until June 30, 2006.

He succeeds UCD Chancellor James H. Shore, MD, whose retirement is effective Dec. 11. During this interim period the selection of a permanent chancellor is ongoing.

Stiegmann received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1971, and his medical degree from University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago in 1975. He completed his internship and residency at the CU School of Medicine, 1975-1982.
