Summer Blood Donations
Blood donations nationwide decrease during the summer months but overall usage remains the same. Give the gift of life and support the patients of the University of Colorado Hospital.
Here are some examples of how your blood donation helps patients at UCH:
Liver Transplant (within 36 hours) – 173 red blood cells; 93 plasma; 9 platelets
Liver Transplant – 36 red blood cells; 21 plasma; 6 platelets
Liver Transplant – 18 red blood cells; 14 plasma; 1 platelet
The hospital is in desperate need of both platelet and whole blood donations. When you donate this summer you will receive a t-shirt and of course that good feeling of helping to save lives. The platelet donation takes about 1-1 1⁄2 hours and can save up to four lives and the whole blood donation takes about 30 minutes and can save two lives.
As a reminder, all University of Colorado Hospital employees are allowed to donate on company time with supervisor approval and position coverage.
