New program focuses
on perils of
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
An innovative new program designed to teach women how to make healthier personal
choices that might help them to avoid unwanted pregnancies, alcohol-related
health problems and the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol, will
be launched this month at the University of Colorado Denver. The program, Personal Decisions, which began on Jan. 31, is described
as a “self-guided kit” for changing risky alcohol-related choices
among women in their childbearing years.
Call for
Florence Sewall and Joseph Sabin awards nominations
Administrators, faculty and staff are invited to submit nominations for the Florence
Rena Sabin Award and the Joseph Addison Sewall Award. The awards
will be presented at this year’s commencement on Friday, May 26.

needed for Post-News Colorado Colfax Marathon
On May 21, an anticipated 6,000 participants and more than 30,000 spectators
will be part of the inaugural Post-News Colorado Colfax Marathon. Volunteers
are needed to help make this an amazing event that will leave a lasting impression
on participants and spectators. All volunteers will receive a volunteer marathon
t-shirt, plus some other exciting rewards.

birth weight accelerates onset of type 1 diabetes
Researchers at the University of Colorado Denver,
along with colleagues at five other study sites nationwide, recently tested
the “accelerator hypothesis,” which predicts that childhood obesity
or higher body mass index levels are associated with a younger age at onset
of type 1 diabetes.
