Discover The Power of One through year-long series of community events in Aurora
The City of Aurora is launching a program Jan. 17, designed to connect and inspire the community through a series of collective cultural experiences.

The Power of One kickoff event, set for 10 a.m. Jan. 17, will reveal more details about the events scheduled for 2006. The kickoff event also will serve as the official start for the program's first segment, The Power of One book, which is presented by the Aurora Public Library.

The Power of One will feature four distinct segments: The Power of One book, The Power of One film, The Power of One perspective and The Power of One monumental moment. Through the year-long program, residents will have a chance to discover the power that one book, one film, one perspective or one moment can have on them as individuals or collectively as a community.

The Power of One film will follow in April, with The Power of One perspective happening in August and The Power of One monumental moment wrapping up the program in November, 2006.

The Aurora Public Library has selected This Side of the Sky, written by local author Elyse Singleton, as the title for The Power of One Book.

Individuals are encouraged to read the book and discuss it with friends and neighbors either at organized events offered through The Power of One book, at their own book clubs and other gatherings, or via an online discussion group that will be available beginning Jan. 17 at www.auroragov.org/thepowerofone. Singleton will be making a number of appearances at locations throughout

Aurora in January and February-including the Jan. 17 kickoff event-to provide readings and discuss her book.

The Power of One is presented by the City of Aurora Library, Recreation & Cultural Services, in partnership with the Friends of the Aurora Public Library, the Community College of Aurora, the Colorado Film School at Lowry and Barnes & Noble. Kaleidoscope Aurora Council is sponsoring the refreshments at the kickoff event.

For more information on The Power of One, call 303-739-6617 or visit www.auroragov.org/thepowerofone.
