Volunteers needed for KidSpree
Volunteers are needed for Aurora’s annual KidSpree, July 15-16. Colorado’s largest outdoor festival for kids features a weekend of free activities and entertainment at Bicentennial Park at Alameda and Potomac, just west of I-225.

Volunteers are needed to help with more than 60 interactive activities, from creating enormous party hats and designing paperclip jewelry to guidance along life-size board games and through a giant maze. Morning and afternoon shifts are available, and all volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and lunch.

To volunteer or for more information, visit www.auroragov.org/volunteer, or call Susan Everett at 303/326-8618 or severett@auroragov.org.

Annual Donor Dash set for July 16
The annual Donor Dash, a 5K run/walk, begun in 2000 to raise awareness for the tremendous need for organ and tissue donation in Colorado and Wyoming, will be held July 16 at Washington Park in Denver.

This event celebrates the gift of life – honoring those who were organ and tissue donors and those who have received transplants. The Donor Dash also recognizes those who are still waiting for a life-saving or life-enhancing transplant.

The “University of Colorado Transplant” team has been established and everyone is invited to join (employees, patients, friends of the Transplant Program). The largest team that registers will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win top prizes, so encourage your friends and family to register as team members.

To register, visit www.active.com before noon on July 15. (Please indicate the Team name). No team registration after the deadline or on race day.Summer blood donations

Blood donations nationwide decrease during the summer months but overall usage remains the same. Give the gift of life and support the patients of the University of Colorado Hospital.

When you donate this summer you will receive a t-shirt and, of course, that good feeling of helping save one of our patients’ lives. The blood donor centers are accepting both platelet and whole blood donations. The platelet donation takes about 1 – 1 1⁄2 hours and can save up to four lives and the whole blood donation takes about 30 minutes and saves two lives.

To donate, please contact one of the blood donor centers:
• 9th and Colorado – basement of Critical Care Tower, room CC027, open Monday – Thursday, 303-372-0494
• Fitzsimons – Cancer Pavilion, 2nd floor, room 2005, open Monday – Thursday, 720-848-1230
Contact via email at donorcenter@uch.edu

Lori Wolf House at CeDAR dedicated
The Lori Wolf House, a new resource center whose core mission is to support patients recovering from alcohol and drug dependencies, was dedicated June 16 at University of Colorado Hospital’s Center for Dependency, Addiction and Rehabilitation (CeDAR).

The Wolf family, friends, donors and hospital staff gathered for a private ceremony at CeDAR, located on the Fitzsimons campus.

Named after a young woman who struggled with a dependency herself, the Lori Wolf House is a Victorian-style home that dates back several decades on the Fitzsimons site. Formerly called the Commander’s House, it recently was renovated thanks to a $500,000 gift from Elaine Wolf, mother of the late Lori Wolf.

Doctors and staff believe the house will be a centerpiece for patients at CeDAR, a state-of-the-art treatment facility that opened in November. The Lori Wolf House stands in a shaded area on the west side of the campus, next to new residential buildings that were built in a redwood, alpine-style reminiscent of Colorado’s mountain resort hotels.

“ The Lori Wolf House will offer our patients a safe, caring place to hold alumni gatherings, peer-to-peer programs, meetings and other events, but it will be so much more than that. More than a support facility, the house will be a home and a beacon of hope for those committed to overcoming alcohol and drug dependencies,” said CeDAR Executive Director Franklin Lisnow.

CeDAR is unique to the Rocky Mountain region and serves as University of Colorado Hospital’s main dependency treatment center. It features secluded courtyards, ponds, paths and trails for exercise and meditation. For more information, visit www.cedarcolorado.org

Volunteers needed for student research on employee wellness programs
Are you interested in participating in a student research study about employee wellness programs?

If so, please complete the attached survey and return (as an attachment) to:
Kim.gall@uchsc.edu.

If you have any questions, please contact Kim Gall at 303-724-3153. If you have already filled out this survey, you don’t need to complete another one.

Please note that e-mail addresses will only be kept until data collection is complete to ensure no duplicate surveys are received. Once data collection is complete, the e-mail addresses will be permanently deleted. Your e-mail address will not be shared with anyone. Only the survey results will be used in the analysis.

Magazines needed
Last year the volunteers at University of Colorado Hospital distributed more than 16,000 donated magazines throughout the hospital and clinics for patients and visitors to read. Because of the ongoing demand, there is a constant need of magazines that are less than six months old.

Please drop off your donations of magazines to the University of Colorado Hospital, 12605 E. 16th Ave. If you have any questions, please contact the Volunteer Services CARE Team at 303-372-8448 or volunteer@uch.edu.
