Currently, Shmerling is executive director and chief executive officer of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. He has served in that capacity since 2002. As executive director and CEO, Shmerling oversaw the completion of Children’s Hospital in Nashville’s new 216-bed hospital and office tower, coordinating and directing the facility’s opening and relocation of patients.

From 1995-2002, Dr. Shmerling served as president, and from 1998-2002 as senior vice president of Ambulatory Services for Methodist/Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, Tenn.

“ I have long admired The Children’s Hospital in Denver,” said Shmerling. “I am honored to join the team that has made this great organization one of the finest pediatric hospitals in the country. I look forward to helping further that tradition of excellence, including the affiliation with the University of Colorado School of Medicine.”

Schmering will join The Children’s Hospital the first week in January 2007.

The Children’s Hospital’s new, state-of-the-art facility at Fitzsimons in Aurora, is scheduled to open in Oct. 2007. The facility will anchor Children’s growing network of pediatric healthcare services. The hospital will reside on 48-acres, occupying 1.44 million square feet. The new hospital will allow for maximum efficiency and provide the highest-quality patient care and service for patients and their families.
