The Children's Hospital announces new president and CEO
James Shmerling, DHA, has been named president and CEO of The Children’s Hospital, succeeding Dori Biester, PhD, RN, who will retire at the end of 2006, after a distinguished career with the organization. Biester has served as CEO since 1998.

From 1995-2002, Dr. Shmerling served as president, and from 1998-2002 as senior vice president of Ambulatory Services for Methodist/Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, Tenn.
“ I have long admired The Children’s Hospital in Denver,” said Shmerling. “I am honored to join the team that has made this great organization one of the finest pediatric hospitals in the country. I look forward to helping further that tradition of excellence, including the affiliation with the University of Colorado School of Medicine.”
Schmering will join The Children’s Hospital the first week in January 2007.
The Children’s Hospital’s new, state-of-the-art facility at Fitzsimons in Aurora, is scheduled to open in Oct. 2007. The facility will anchor Children’s growing network of pediatric healthcare services. The hospital will reside on 48-acres, occupying 1.44 million square feet. The new hospital will allow for maximum efficiency and provide the highest-quality patient care and service for patients and their families.
