New hospital CFO

Anthony DeFurio has been appointed vice president for finance and chief financial officer for the University of Colorado Hospital, effective Dec. 2.

Anthony DeFurio
Currently, he serves as chief financial officer at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics – a 760 plus-bed regional academic medical center, and one of the nation's largest university-owned teaching hospitals. Prior to joining the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, DeFurio held positions as the chief financial officer at Sisters of Charity Providence hospitals in South Carolina, Catholic Health Initiatives in Denver and Columbia/HCA.

“ Anthony is a terrific addition to our management and leadership team. I know he looks forward to working with all of us during this very important time in our hospital’s history,” said Bruce Schroffel, University of Colorado Hospital president and CEO. “His experience in both the not-for- profit and for-profit environments will serve us well. He will add a new dimension of entrepreneurship and bring fresh ideas and vigor to University of Colorado Hospital.”

At the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, DeFurio has had significant successes improving the revenue cycle and the budgeting process, as well as strengthening the operating margin of the hospital. In addition, accounts receivables, cash and overall profitability improved considerably under his leadership.

DeFurio replaces Forrest Cason, who will remain at the hospital as a senior vice president of corporate finance and treasurer in the interim to assist with the transition of responsibilities.
