Leadership Book Group
extends invitation to participate
The Leadership Book Group will meet Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 4:30 p.m. in
the UCD Bookstore on the 9th and Colorado campus.
The book selected is Failing Forward: How to Make the Most of Your
Mistakes,
by John C. Maxwell. (A brief synopsis of this book is below.)
The Health Science Center campus bookstore has graciously agreed to have
copies of the book available for purchase and will send the book directly
to you, if needed. The list price for the book is $24.99 but the bookstore
is discounting them to $18.00. Although, the book can be purchased through
other venders, we ask that you make your purchase though the campus bookstore.
The campus bookstore has graciously agreed to provide snacks and refreshment
for the next meeting and we would like to support and thank them for
their donation to the group.
The Leadership Book Group was created to build collegiality and to specifically
focus on developing leadership potential in individuals from underrepresented
groups (e.g., women, minorities, those with disabilities, and members
of the GLBT community). We would like to stress, however, that this program
is open to anyone who would like to participate.
Participants will read
and discuss books on leadership and professional development. The Leadership
Book Group meets on the first Tuesday of every other month.
The Leadership Book Group is sponsored by the HSC Faculty Women’s
Committee, Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee, HSC GLBTI Friends and Allies
Committee and the Office of Diversity.
Please bring ideas for the next book selection for the Feb. 6, 2007,
meeting.
RSVP to Vicky Saulsberry at 303-315-8558 or email at Vicky.Saulsberry@uchsc.edu to ensure that the room will accommodate all attendees.
Failing Forward: How to Make the Most of Your Mistakes by John C. Maxwell
The major difference between achieving people and average people is their
perception of and response to failure. John C. Maxwell takes a closer
look at failure-and reveals that the secret of moving beyond failure
is to use it as a lesson and a stepping-stone. He covers the top reasons
people fail and shows how to master fear instead of being mastered by
it. Readers will discover that positive benefits can accompany negative
experiences-if you have the right attitude. Chock full of action suggestions
and real-life stores, Failing Forward is a strategic guide that will
help men and women move beyond mistakes to fulfill their potential and
achieve success.
