On March 22, 2007, Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter signed into law SB 97.

bill will provide money from the tobacco settlement to fund the University of Colorado Denver.

UCD to conduct phase III clinical
trial of creatine for Parkinson's
University of Colorado Denver researchers
will participate in a large-scale national clinical trial to
learn if the nutritional
supplement creatine can slow the progression of Parkinson's disease
(PD). While creatine is not an approved therapy for PD or any
other condition, it
is widely thought to improve exercise performance.
Gene connected to vitiligo and
other
autoimmune diseases identified
In a study published in the March 22 edition of The New England Journal
of Medicine, researchers at the University of Colorado Denver and the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes along
with St. George’s, University of London, have discovered a connection
between a gene and the chronic skin condition vitiligo, as well as a possible
link to an array of other autoimmune diseases.
Two new studies test varying treatments for enlarged prostate
A sensation of not emptying the bladder completely; the need to get
up multiple times in the night to use the bathroom; and straining or waiting
followed by slow, weak, or interrupted urination – all are signs of
an enlarged prostate, a common diagnosis for almost all men as they get older.
Lung cancer study aims to identify
early detection and prevention
Lung cancer is one of the only common cancers without a standardized
method for early detection and prevention – a frightening situation
when you consider it is the top cancer killer in both men and women in the
United States, and that more Americans die each year from lung cancer than
from breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers combined.
Antidepressants provide no added
benefit for bipolar disorder
Psychiatric researchers at both the University of Colorado Denver and the University of Colorado at Boulder took
part in a $26.8 million, 22-center study across the United States between
1998 and 2005 that looked at medication effectiveness in patients with bipolar
disorder.
