Altitude researchers win prestigious awards
Four altitude researchers associated with the Altitude Research Center
(ARC) at the University of Colorado Denver
were recognized this month at the 2007 International Hypoxia Symposium
in Lake Louise, Canada.
In the category for best scientific abstract and presentation by junior
trainees, two of the top three awards went to ARC collaborators at
UCD, Megan Wilson and Colleen Julian, both from the downtown campus’ Department
of Health & Behavioral Sciences.
Andrew Sutherland from the University
of Oxford, in collaboration with Robert Roach, PhD, associate director
and chief of the research division at ARC, received one of three awards
for best senior trainee. Edward Maa, epilepsy fellow in the Department
of Neurology at UCD’s School of Medicine, received an honorable
mention.
More than 200 altitude researchers and experts attended the bi-annual
International Hypoxia Symposium to share cutting edge, sophisticated
altitude research. More than 20 countries are represented to present
the latest research and discovery into the many effects of hypoxia
on humans and animals.
Family Medicine Residency Program honored nationally
The University of Colorado/Denver Health Family Medicine Residency
Program was recently named one of the 14 programs in the nation to
be part of the Preparing Personal Physicians for Practice (P4) program.
The P4 program, jointly sponsored by the American Board of Family Medicine
and the Association of Family Medicine Residencies, selected 14 programs
based on the attractiveness of their innovations and the likelihood
that they will be able to lead residency education into the future.
Dan Burke, MD, is the residency director of the program and lead author
of the application.

“ Nancy’s
professional competence and demeanor, coupled with her respect for
others, have earned her a degree of loyalty and appreciation rarely
observed, both from supervisors and peers.”
Anna John, Administrator, Department of Psychiatry
“I rely on
Ms. Plummer to work independently at a level much above the actual
requirements of her job and she has never disappointed me. I trust
her implicitly to handle both complicated financial records and delicate
personnel issues; she is equally competent at both.”
Karen Frankel, director, Harris Program in Child Development and Infant
Mental Health
“Nancy’s organizational skills, responsiveness
and willingness to go above and beyond to get the job done are unparalleled.
Nancy can be observed on any given day asking what she may do to be
helpful, and I can honestly say that my ability to effectively perform
my job duties is greatly influenced by her support.”
