Bonfils-Stanton Foundation makes a gift of the Ninth Avenue property
The Bonfils-Stanton Foundation gifted the value of its conditional interest in the Ninth Avenue University of Colorado Denver (UCD) property to the university, to assist in the UCD’s relocation to Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC).
The property was originally deeded to the university one the condition that it be used only for hospital or educational purposes. According to legislation passed by the Colorado General Assembly in 2003, UCD is required to assist in the development, sale or use of the Ninth Avenue property as part of its relocation to AMC.
Prior to the gifting of the Bonfils property, the title would have reverted to Bonfils-Stanton Foundation if the Ninth Avenue property was used for purposes other than hospital or educational purposes.
The members of the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Board of Trustees decided to gift the property to be consistent with the original intent of Frederick Bonfils to provide excellent health, education, research and patient care.
“The Foundation’s trustees recognize the importance of a world-class medical campus in Colorado and are pleased to continue our support toward the accomplishment of that goal,” said J. Landis Martin, chairman of the board of the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation.
For the past 80 years the UCD and affiliated institutions have used the property as part of their research, receiving more than $350 million in annual outside grants.
In addition to this gift, the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation previously supported the relocation of the May Bonfils Stanton Ambulatory Care Clinics to the new campus.
