2007 Supplier Showcases
Suppliers specializing in campus needs will be showcasing their products
at the 2007 Supplier Showcase.
The showcase will feature new office products and technologies.
Faison/Corporate
Express representatives and CU purchasing staff will be available for consultation.
Refreshments will be served and there will be free samples and door prizes.
The showcase will be at the Downtown Denver campus on Thursday, September
20 at St. Cajetan’s at Auraria. The showcase will be at the Anschutz
Medical Campus in Aurora on Thursday, September 27 at Research 1 North on
the first and second floors. Both showcases will be open from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m.

Fun at Fitz
Aurora Events Connections and The Aurora Chamber present Fun at Fitz,
a family event to benefit The Children’s Hospital, featuring an obstacle
course, sports and skills games, clowns, magic shows, live entertainment,
food and lots more.
Fun at Fitz will be held September 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at General’s
Park at Fitzsimons.

Palmer Elementary School tutoring
Palmer Elementary School is looking for volunteers to help tutor/mentor
3rd, 4th and 5th grade students in an after school tutoring program.
Participation in the program involves:

One-on-one tutoring sessions with students from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. every
Tuesday that school is in session.
•
Transporting students to and from tutoring site. Students should be picked
up around 5:30 or 5:45 p.m. to ensure arriving on time.
•
Informing the volunteer coordinator and/or liaison teacher about the
student’s needs and any updates about the tutoring sessions.
•
Completing a program evaluation each year.

Self defense class for men scheduled for
Sept. 22
The University of Colorado Denver Police
Department is offering “R.A.D. (Reducing Aggression with Defense)
for Men,” a self-defense class for men. The program will teach men
how to avoid confrontation as a form of defense and better ways to reduce
aggressive behavior.
The session will take place on September 22 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Participants
must attend the full ten hours.
The registration deadline is September 17 at 2 p.m., and space is limited.
The class is open to men 14 years of age and older.
Cost:
Students (anywhere, with student ID): $20
UCD and UCH affiliates (ID required): $25
General public: $30

Downtown Aurora Visual Arts
presents
photography project Sept. 27-Nov. 21
The students from Downtown Aurora Visual Arts (DAVA) will be presenting
their digital photography projects in an exhibition running from September
27 through November 21.
The exhibition, Capturing our Community, will showcase photographs by
11 to 15 year old students from DAVA’s summer art programs representing
views of their community.
The exhibition is free and open to the public, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday
through Friday, or by appointment.
An opening reception will be held Thursday, September 27 from 4-8 p.m.
and will feature a drum circle, led by Keith Gill and a Digital Stories
screening.

Colorado Cancer Day set for Sept. 29
The University of Colorado Cancer Center (UCCC) is holding an information
session on common cancers on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m.
Cancer researchers and doctors will present information on the newest
advances in diagnosing, treating and surviving cancer in four separate,
75-minute sessions. The topics include surgery and drug-based treatment
advances in breast, lung, colorectal and prostate cancers.
The day will end with a session about the roles of complementary care
and diet in cancer treatment, as well as information about the pros and
cons of participating in clinical trials of new anti-cancer agents.
The event is free and open to the public.
People are welcome to attend a single session or all five. A parallel
all-day meeting, tailored specifically to primary care physicians and
other key medical specialists who may encounter cancer in their day-to-day
practices,
will also run at the same time.

Bard Center Bioscience
short courses offered
The Bard Center Bioentrepreneurship Program is offering four non-credit,
non-degree courses on Tuesday nights from January through May 2008.
There will be four 2.5 hour sessions on each of the topics: bioscience
marketing,
regulatory affairs and reimbursement, product development and finance.
The target audiences are life science graduate students, business students,
service providers and those employed in the Colorado biotechnology/drug
and medical device industries who want to learn more about how to commercialize
life science innovations.
The courses are designed to supplement and
expand on the Bioscience Technology Transfer course that is offered
from Aug-Dec and will be on real-world, hands-on tips and incorporate
lessons
based on experience with successes and failures.
